Continuous Improvement Leader

Job Description

The Continuous Improvement Lead will drive and lead the effort for Rapid Continuous Improvement throughout Tube Specialties Co. This position will train and transfer lean knowledge to others and lead teams during implementation of projects to achieve a Lean enterprise. Will be responsible for formulating and implementing all improvement activities within area of responsibility by coordinating specific improvement focus groups such as; Project Teams, KAIZEN Events, or Natural Work Teams by utilization of lean manufacturing and quality tools for analysis and execution.

Essential Functions:

  • Assists in the development and implementation of CI strategies supporting aggressive business goals CTQ / CTD / CTC / CTW.
  • Helps, guides and counsels area leaders to plan and execute events in line with their Macro Plans & Policy Deployment.
  • Assists in collecting and monitoring Key Performance Indicators for the organization.
  • Maintains prospective Continuous Improvement initiatives determining organizational impact & criticality.
  • Leads, plans, secures resources and eliminates roadblocks for Continuous Improvement initiatives such as Project Teams, KAIZEN Events, or Natural Work Teams.
  • Trains associates at all levels on Lean Manufacturing and Quality practices utilizing tools to measure and target efforts such as (8D's, DMAIC, DOE, SPC / KAIZEN, KANBAN, HEIJUNKA, JIT, SMED, 5's).
  • Helps drive the Organization transition to one that is supportive of and operating at the Least Wasteful Way.

Qualifications

  • This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent experience in continuous improvement.
  • 2 + years of experience in Lean Manufacturing preferred (or manufacturing supervision during a lean implementation could be substituted).
  • Extremely high performance level, ability to lead with or without formal authority, will be proficient in driving rapid improvement deployments, extensive experience in Planning, Leading and executing Continuous Improvement initiatives.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, work with and relate to with people at all levels of the organization.

Working Conditions

  • Performing these duties will involve also leading improvement efforts in the manufacturing shop floor, therefore PPE is required according the required exposure.

Quality Manger

OVERVIEW:

The act of overseeing/leading all activities and tasks needed to maintain a desired level of excellence. This includes creating and implementing quality planning and assurance, as well as quality control and quality improvement.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Collect, organize, monitor, and report on information related to the functions of the Quality Assurance department.
  • Interact with both customer and company personnel on all levels regarding quality related issues
  • Establish and maintain continuity of quality related programs and/or issues between all departments and all shifts.
  • Assist in the issuing, coordinating, and processing of Return Authorizations and Material Rejections.
  • Continuously review quality processes for improvement.
  • Maintain plant and company quality standards – PPM goals
  • ISO-9000 development
  • Maintain calibration program throughout plant
  • Maintain welding procedure
  • Establish production Quality Plans and set In-Process and Final Inspection hold points
  • Schedule and assist in customer inspections
  • Train personnel on quality processes and procedures
  • Maintain Plant and Corporate PQC events during year
  • Ensure plant meets ITAR requirement/documentation
  • Ensure process documentation is maintained and controlled

  • 3-5 years manufacturing and supervisory experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in engineering or quality discipline.
  • Strong computer skills - including familiarity with MS Office products.
  • Knowledge of Manufacturing ERP systems
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9000 Quality Standard.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize a busy workload

Business Unit Manager

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Business Unit Leader shall oversee all aspects of the manufacturing operations within Nelson Global Products.  The Business Unit Leader is responsible for providing direction, to ensure the effective use of facilities and personnel, in the pursuit of an efficient operation.  The Business Unit Leader will direct all efforts towards providing a Safe work environment, generating Quality products, promoting an efficient manufacturing environment and developing the personnel within the organization

Essential Job Functions:

  • Establish/promote a Safe work environment.  The Business Unit Leader will develop and implement a program that trains all personnel in the practices of safety, hazard identification and elimination of issues identified as potential safety hazards.  The program will include an accident investigation process and root cause / corrective actions on safety related issues.
  • Develop and maintain an environment conducive to generating Quality products.  The Business Unit Leader will work closely with departmental supervision, training departmental personnel in the processes and procedures required to generate Quality components. 
  • Promoting an efficient manufacturing environment.  The Business Unit Leader will responsible for the production activities of all production areas, ensuring schedule compliance and the meeting Customer delivery expectations.  The Business Unit Leader will develop and implement a process to review facility expenditures, ensuring budgetary compliance and reviewing any variance to established financial expectations. 
  • Developing personnel - The Business Unit Leader will assist supervision, and Human Resources, in the direction of training efforts.  A strong emphasis will be placed on cross training within cells, work groups and departments.  The Business Unit Leader is tasked to empower, select, coach, and retain qualified staff that contributes to unit and company goals.
  • The Business Unit Leader will provide subordinate evaluations, mentoring / coaching in areas deemed proficient or deficient.
  • The Business Unit Leader will communicate vision and expectation levels to unit members.  The strategy must be reliant upon the strategic direction of corporate vision and company goals.
  • The Business Unit Leader integrates different team functions and ensures the highest quality performance through feedback, training, and development.  
  • Performs other essential duties as required.

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree in Business, Engineering or related field and five years prior operational management experience is required. 
  • Related manufacturing experience in tube forming, fabrication, welding, brazing or bending is beneficial.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills (both verbal and written) are a requirement.
  • Problem solving, team building and coaching characteristics are preferred skills sets.
  • Candidate must be proficient in computer operations, inclusive of spreadsheets and word processing
