Business Unit Manager

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Business Unit Leader shall oversee all aspects of the manufacturing operations within Nelson Global Products.  The Business Unit Leader is responsible for providing direction, to ensure the effective use of facilities and personnel, in the pursuit of an efficient operation.  The Business Unit Leader will direct all efforts towards providing a Safe work environment, generating Quality products, promoting an efficient manufacturing environment and developing the personnel within the organization

Essential Job Functions:

  • Establish/promote a Safe work environment.  The Business Unit Leader will develop and implement a program that trains all personnel in the practices of safety, hazard identification and elimination of issues identified as potential safety hazards.  The program will include an accident investigation process and root cause / corrective actions on safety related issues.
  • Develop and maintain an environment conducive to generating Quality products.  The Business Unit Leader will work closely with departmental supervision, training departmental personnel in the processes and procedures required to generate Quality components. 
  • Promoting an efficient manufacturing environment.  The Business Unit Leader will responsible for the production activities of all production areas, ensuring schedule compliance and the meeting Customer delivery expectations.  The Business Unit Leader will develop and implement a process to review facility expenditures, ensuring budgetary compliance and reviewing any variance to established financial expectations. 
  • Developing personnel - The Business Unit Leader will assist supervision, and Human Resources, in the direction of training efforts.  A strong emphasis will be placed on cross training within cells, work groups and departments.  The Business Unit Leader is tasked to empower, select, coach, and retain qualified staff that contributes to unit and company goals.
  • The Business Unit Leader will provide subordinate evaluations, mentoring / coaching in areas deemed proficient or deficient.
  • The Business Unit Leader will communicate vision and expectation levels to unit members.  The strategy must be reliant upon the strategic direction of corporate vision and company goals.
  • The Business Unit Leader integrates different team functions and ensures the highest quality performance through feedback, training, and development.  
  • Performs other essential duties as required.

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree in Business, Engineering or related field and five years prior operational management experience is required. 
  • Related manufacturing experience in tube forming, fabrication, welding, brazing or bending is beneficial.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills (both verbal and written) are a requirement.
  • Problem solving, team building and coaching characteristics are preferred skills sets.

Plant Controller

OVERVIEW:

 

Oversees the financial activities of the plant for the accurate and timely dissemination of accurate financial information including, but not limited to, internal and external monthly financial statements, and cost and profitability reports.

 

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

Provides financial insight and guidance to the plant management team so the team has the best information to understand operating results and makes the most informed decisions to drive the business forward.

Ensures accuracy of the physical inventory and report all findings. Investigates and explains book-to-physical variances. 

Maintains a perpetual inventory for finished goods and reconciles this perpetual to production, shipping and returns

Analyzes potential excess and obsolete inventory items.

Ensures all plant related financials are stated accurately on the profit & loss statement and the balance sheet.

Supports capital deployment by preparing capital expenditure reports.

Reviews and approves customer debits and supports collection of accounts.

Works with corporate accounting to file necessary tax returns at all levels.

Books necessary journal entries on a monthly basis.

Applies statistical methods and performs analytics to determine manufacturing run rates, staff requirements, usage variances, standards and assess alternative approaches to drive cost improvements.

Sr. Manufacturing Engineer

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Manufacturing engineer for the processing of metal tubes (tube bending, end forming and induction brazing operations). Working with mild steel and stainless-steel tubing. Producing custom shapes / geometry with both manual and automated equipment (“Addison, Heber and Pines benders). Working with induction brazing and welding. 

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Provide expertise in manufacturing process improvement and new process development. Provide technical support for the use of Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering tools for development of Standard Work. Support and help lead the continuous improvement of manufacturing operations.

Lead the use of common applications and Lean Manufacturing practices and tools, improvement processes and common solutions in the plant manufacturing processes. Understand the use of computer simulations of processes and provide input and recommendations for improvement for the plant. 

  • Provide manufacturing engineering support excellence, including:
    • Participation in cross-functional project workgroups
    • Troubleshoot potential equipment and process problems
    • Support maintenance personnel in problem solving equipment or process failures
    • Support New Product Introduction with the latest philosophy and technology in process design and lowest total cost production processes.
    • Lead installation of new manufacturing processes & equipment
    • Drive continuous improvements in our machine and equipment availability.
  • Work across all shifts to be able to maintain support for production

Provide training for the plant personnel with respect to Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering tools such as computer simulations, predetermined time systems, electronic process documentation and planning systems. Participate in the evaluation, selection and application of new technology and processes and their ‘best’ application.

New Product Introduction from design for manufacturing to PPAP.  Interact with customers through drawing reviews, equipment and tooling design, quality defect detection and design of process using PFMEA tools.

At least 3 years industrial experience with some shop floor level work. Hands on application of Manufacturing Engineering concepts and tools for process design. Materials flow management experience a plus. Certified six sigma belt and experience with lean manufacturing strategies also a plus.
